COVID-19 INFORMATION FOR VOLUNTEERS
Huckleberry House is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for our young people and adults alike. Our team is monitoring the websites of the CDC, Ohio Department of Health and other health related organizations to stay on top of developments related to COVID-19.
We appreciate the efforts underway in Ohio to contain COVID-19 and are following the recommendations of health experts in regard to all our operations.
As we take steps to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19, we will be suspending volunteer opportunities in our crisis shelter for the foreseeable future. We thank you in advance for your understanding and will keep you updated as we obtain additional information.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Huckleberry House. Whether it is serving a meal in the shelter, playing games with our teens, or cleaning-up and fixing things around the house, every hour of volunteer service helps Huck House serve the youth of central Ohio. There is something for everyone.
If you have an idea for a special volunteer event, please contact the development office at (614) 298-4105 or jross@huck-house.org.
A few things to remember when you come to volunteer:
- The house is big but the rooms are small, so we have to limit the number of volunteers who come at one time.
- We can’t predict how many youth will be in the shelter when you come to volunteer. You may call a day or two in advance to see if we have a ballpark number to give you.
- We appreciate your patience in cases where the needs of the youth being served require us to cancel a volunteer session. Should this type of situation arise, we will contact you as quickly as possible.
- We promise the teens who stay with us that we will observe strict confidentiality, and we ask that our volunteers respect that promise of confidentiality.
- We ask that at least one member of your group be 18 years or older.
- Questions should be directed to the development office at (614) 298-4105 or jross@huck-house.org.
